Librarian Syd Murphy flees the carnage of a failed marriage by accepting an eighteen-month position in Jerichoa small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia. Her plans to hide out and heal her wounds fall by the wayside as she gets drawn into the daily lives of the quirky locals.
She becomes fast friends with Maddie Stevenson, the enigmatic physician who has returned to the backcountry community to take over her late father’s medical practice. Together they learn that life and love can have as many twists and turns as a country road.
What reviewers have to say . . .
“Jericho is not a quick little love story, it’s a fully-involved romance novel clocking in at over 400 well-written, well-conceived pages. From it’s opening paragraph, the reader is greeted with rich detail, flowing internal dialogue, witty humor, jagged verbal jousting, and a joyous intellectual tete-a-tete.”
Salem West, The Rainbow Reader
“To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. Loved, adored, brilliant, laugh out loud and amusing would also not begin to do this book justice. This is high on my list for a re-read and I’ve clearly marked Ann McMan’s future books as a must buy.” review by Terry, Affinity Ebook Press
"Jericho by Ann McMan is well up in the running for my favourite book of the year. And yes, I am aware that it's only the first week of January. This is a great book. No, really. I loved this book. And not just because it had a librarian in it. In fact, I'd rank this up with Curious Wine as a classic lesbian love story. I confidently predict it picking up some kind of award this year.
"Jericho is a romance and a friendship that is fun and interesting and undramatic, and pulls you right into the characters' lives so by the time the drama happens, and the romance finally comes out into the open, you really, really care. And laugh and cry and enjoy it along with them, and feel their pain, and shake your head." - review, Good Lesbian Books
"Jericho is an exciting début novel with unforgettable main characters and a fine cast of supporting characters. It is wonderfully written: the vocabulary is subtle and precise, the tone playful and the dialogues are well-crafted. It is also packed with literary and musical references as well as evocations of mouth-watering meals and good wines. I strongly recommend this refreshing and delightful novel." - Review, Hannah's Nook
"Her slim narrative and rapier dialog wend through a somewhat bucolic beginning seducing the reader with a comfortable pace. Once the bliss sets in, the author amps up the story and the pacing with hellz-a-poppin plot twists. This was fun, endearing, and pleasurable read. A sequel is promised and I’ll be more than ready. This author possesses a rare and enjoyable gift; I’m guessing we’ll hear a lot more from her." - review, Words of Barrett
"Appalachia and mountain life seem to be a theme with me lately, don’t they? I love it! I also love this book. If you’re a fan of romantic comedy movies, you’ll love it too. Jericho is laugh out loud funny. McMan has a real talent for characterization. I could just picture these people in my head. I know people like these!" - review, Shelly's LGBT Book Review Blog
